I have now shared four seasonal notebooks – a year’s worth – and each idea I am drawn to for the next notebook responds in some way to the last, acting as a foil, or a palette cleanser. In my mind, this is further justification for my time-limited, seasonal approach. I can enjoy a new challenge, whilst letting the previous percolate quietly in the background. As I have said before, some of the themes of my notebooks I might revisit in future, develop into something more – others I will let lie.
There is a lot percolating at the moment, and autumn always brings with it a rush of creativity and excitement. So, with this in mind, the theme for my next seasonal notebook, running throughout September, is simply Life in Numbers. In most ways, I am firmly Team Qual as opposed to Team Quant, being all about the narrative, the discussion. But our lives are filled with figures and statistics and, from time to time (or for a specific purpose), I lean into this as it suits.
