Walking to the woods today, I counted ten jackdaws in the field with the cows (I only counted fifteen cows today, perhaps the sixteenth was over the hill). I spotted the jackdaws specifically because one was sat on one of the fenceposts, watching me and Scapa with that sort of intense nonchalance that birds somehow manage to achieve.
The woods seemed to be stratum on stratum of spiderwebs, all glowing with a white-silver purity amongst the heather and the last of the blaeberries.
This evening, Auri wrote out her spelling words - eight of them, including whisk and whizz. Then, she skipped off with Euan to get some supper (two slices of toast and Marmite - we’re all pro-Marmite in this family), talking about rumbly tummies.
