As already discussed, the Back-Folk live very much by a seasonal calendar. It is not thought that the Back-Folk mark the years by number, though they do seem to be referenced by events. The record of these events is the responsibility of the Trunk and, as far as can be ascertained, in a rare departure into a display of lasting materiality, there is a perpetual weaving, added to each year, marking and naming the years (or series of seasons, to be more accurate) by their events. Thus, it is possible to come across in conversation references such as “three summers after Grand Oak Felled by Lightning”, or “the winter before Paths Changed”.
