There's always that moment of trepidation ordering oil - prices fluctuate so much at the moment! I do love these little everyday processes we all have. They sometimes make no sense to anyone else, but make complete sense to ourselves or people in similar situations - when I visit the family at Stempster up in Caithness, I find myself absentmindedly glancing at their oil monitor every time I walk past, too!

There’s a brilliant site we use in France that tracks the price so we can ‘judge the moment’. The truck arrives, fills up and then prints of a live receipt with the actual price at that moment. Technology! Mad. We thought this year would be the first for ordering logs. We inherited piles of old ones when we bought the place. But the stacks from cutting out own trees have seasoned and are ready to go. We should have plenty for this winter. Fun fact, our local wood guy is called Monsieur Sapin, Mr Pine!

I missed this comment - that is brilliant! We used to have a music teacher called Mr Playfair. I always thought that was quite apt, though perhaps it would have been even better if he had taught PE!
